Choosing Solid Surface Countertops – What You Need to Know
Selecting a surface for your new kitchen or bath can be equal parts exciting and stressful, once you learn all the options available. One of the most popular options – solid surface countertops, like Staron Solid Surfaces by Samsung – have plenty of pros and not too many cons. Here’s a breakdown:
Pros: You’ll have plenty of color options to choose from, which helps when you’re considering the overall design and look of your space. Solid surfaces are nonporous, so they don’t require sealing, and bacteria, mold and moisture can’t penetrate the surface. You don’t need to worry about seams, even when you add in a sink. Cleaning and maintenance is straightforward (something we all like to hear!), and solid surfaces are considered to be one of the more affordable “high end” countertop materials.
Cons: Solid surfaces scratch more easily than quartz or granite, and they’re not as heat resistant as natural stone.
